Bat Walk 4 May 2016
FoCG organised a Bat Walk in the Barbican for members. This was our first bat walk, following training last year. After a short talk we ventured out into the Barbican gardens just after the sun had set and were immediately rewarded by a flurry of Common Pipistrelles. A tour of the Lakes was accompanied by sightings of bats in all the Barbican gardens. As it grew darker, it was only possible to pick up the bats using bat detectors. The only species we could confidently identify was the Common Pipistrelle, but future surveys will be undertaken not just in the Barbican but throughout the City to establish the extent of the City’s bat population.
