Encouraging pollinators
Barber Surgeons wildflower meadow
FoCG installed a wildflower meadow in 2021 with over 30 species of flowering perennial plants to support a wide range of pollinators. The site will be monitored over the next few summers but has already attracted several species of bumblebee and many solitary bees and other pollinators.
Download this advice to gardeners from the Bumblebee Conservation Trust (BCT) on how to encourage pollinators to your garden or windowbox.
Monthly Bee Walks
Since 2017 volunteers provide regular monthly data to the BCT by walking a set BeeWalk starting in Bunhill Fields and ending in Festival Gardens. We plan to start asecond regular BeeWalk along another fixed route in 2022.
